These hill tribe kids are from the Sarape Technical school in Sarapee, Chiang Mai. Some of them have been studying accounting and some took computer business classes. I met them last semester when a friend of mine, Arjan Jo and their Logistics teacher asked me to do a 3 month English course for them. Since I am a volunteer at the Wat Don Chan, time was limited but we figure every Friday for 3 hours would work. I had to have a friend Lynn Anderson pick up a few classes for me but it all worked out in the end and the connection with the kids was so great.
We studied things like basic introductions and conversation, food and how to order food and ask questions in restaurants, school, what they study and what they want to do when they finish school and many other basics. Every class was full of enthusiastic questions and they even asked me to give them homework. When we finished our last class, Arjan Jo and I took the kids to a hotel for a very nice buffet lunch, it was a blast. After taking pictures I told them I would see them at graduation. We were all excited to see each other and after the ceremony we made some snacks like mini bruschetta and chocolate dipped fruit and had a karaoke party. I wish them all the best in the future and look forward to seeing their progress.
