Cleaning, B-Boys and guitar playin…

Well this was a busy week for us all here at the Wat Don Chan. We began cleaning the bakery kitchen with the help of  18 students and 2 volunteers from the Friends of the Wat Don Chan. This started with removing everything out of the kitchen, this has been here for 2 years and had yet to ever have a cleaning like this. Those of you that know me, know how important it is to have a clean kitchen, I am kind of a freak about it. A very nice man named Joe from Bangkok donated everything and recently he gave the Wat an ice cream machine and a freezer. I told him I would get this kitchen back into shape and we did. It took us 8 hours of hard labor but well worth it and now I feel great cooking and baking in it.

Another one of the Friends of the Wat Don Chan, Bill has now been coming by to teach some of the kids how to play the guitar. There are about 9 kids here that have been playing and singing for a while. Now that Bill has been coming they have been so happy to learn never cords and different styles of playing. Two of the kids have now written some more songs. Now we just need to get someone here to help with the singing, admittedly Bill is not the best singer.

There are so many of the boys here that like to break dance. I think they loved it before but after Mr. G was here last year for about 2 months, teaching them a ton of moves it has been crazy. Every night I see them in the back of the Temple dancing and spinning around. They do it on the concrete, maybe I should get them some boxes to help them spin better. They also could use a new boom box, I will keep my eyes out for something for them. There is a little guy about 10 years old and he is sooooo good, it’s great fun to watch them. If you come for a visit they would love to show off.
